It is used as a pre vulcanizing agent in the petrochemical industry, as an intermediate for the synthesis of organic phosphorus insecticide fenthion, p-methylthio-m-phenol, and p-methylthiophenol, as an intermediate for thiopropyl phosphorus, as well as as a purifying agent for solvents and catalysts.
